Residents who have been confused about recycling collections has led to environmental chiefs considering the idea of scrapping bags and boxes which are used to collect different types of recycling. A review has recently taken place in Scotland which has shown that a single container for recycling a great many options is going to be a far more feasible option that will confuse residents less.
The Edinburgh council stated that the collection of brown and green wheelie bins is going to be cancelled in September in order to save money for the council and also encourage homes to recycle more of their waste. Leaders in the city have said that a system which has fewer containers is going to be more affordable for the Council and more understandable for its residents.
Currently around half of the residents in the city have four different recycling bins, as well as two different plastic bags, all of which collect different items. Additionally, households are also capable of receiving two other bags, specifically for collecting unwanted clothes and used batteries.
The changes are going to take place after September when the wheelie bin system changes significantly. Some areas are going to see collections on a twice-weekly basis.
