The EcoSheet is a plastic plywood alternative to wood that has been on the market for the past two years and is produced by 2K Manufacturing in Luton. The two years have been busy and solid for the product as CEO Omer Kutluoglu explained that the product has been in high demand and will likely become an integral part of the UK plywood market.
Even the Marks and Spencer in Bath may have a hoarding up over top of it; the store is open for business. What was notable about the bright yellow and green hoarding was that it was made completely out of EcoSheet and not traditional plywood as a casual observer may have thought. The EccoSheet is made out of waste plastics that come from construction sites so it is 100% sustainable.
The company 2K Manufacturing was created in 2007 and has seen its products being picked up by many major contractors including Lovell and Wales that love to use the EcoSheet products on their projects. Kutluoglu stated that the demand is higher than the supply they actually have ready to sell as the product has really exceeded their expectations.
Every year the UK imports about 30 million sheets of plywood into the country with boards that comes from as far away as Africa, Brazil, and China. The EcoSheet offers a great new alternative that can be sourced from home.
Kutluoglu explains that the EcoSheet is made out of plastics that are melted down and molded together, but what makes their model special is that it can be made with any type of plastic including contaminated plastics and multipolymer plastics so that every plastic material gets a second life. He added that they are really excited about the product because e it is innovative and will change the way plastic is recycled.
